Personal background |
I grew up in west central Minnesota near a tiny farm community called Milan. Free from most light pollution, my interest in the stars came early in life. My parents cabin on Star Lake may have been another influence. Sitting on a dock I had a great view of the northern half of the sky. I saw many falling stars looking to the northeast. After realizing that astronomy was not a good career option, it became the main hobby. I always wanted to help search for other life. This project is a perfect fit.
Why SaintOlaf? It has nothing to do with Betty White on the Golden Girls. She did visit our Saint Olaf Campus in Northfield, Minnesota. I found out after graduating that I am one of the many descendents of the actual Saint Olaf. Several Viking explorers are in my family tree including Erik the Red. |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I try to imagine what other life believes in. Do they believe in an afterlife and god(s)? What percentage of other life at our technological level have the same problems we have today. Maybe we already exist within a galactic empire that is silently watching us and other planets with life. They could be relaying our media to their culture. I can just imagine Gilligan's Island in 2,055 alien languages. Uff Da! |
