Personal background
I live in Indiana and work for the State Police as a Dispatcher. I don't own a telescope, but it's next on my list of things to buy. I've always had an interest in knowing "what's out there". I feel this is one way I can contribute and hopefully make a difference.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I find it ridiculous to believe that "we're it" in the entire universe. There has to be extraterrestrial life out there. I can't speculate on when and how we'll discover it, I think Hollywood does a good job of doing that. The technilogical benefits of such a discovery could also be our destruction. More importantly that finding "who" or "where" is finding a way to get to them. Face it, we're slowly destroying our own planet. It may not happen in our life time, but it would be comforting to know that there is another place out there if we could just find a way to get there.
