Personal background
My name is Gerard Joseph Lim. I am from Singapore. I am currently 15, coming 16, and am studying at Assumption English School. My hobbies are ice skating, inline skating, making robots and doing other cool stuffs related to the computer, the internet and internet security. I joined SETI@Home because I think that it is a cool organisation and I would like to be a part of the community. I am also part of the "Project RC5" community.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do believe that other life do exist. My "theory" is that there are other galaxies like ours. And in these galaxies, there is sure to be at least one planet in Earth's position(Betelgeuse) - that is close to the Sun, enough to be warm and support life. Therefore, the chances of there being other life forms in the universe is fairly high. And I also think that humans should transmit beacon signals so that if the other lifeforms are ALSO doing the same "SETI@Home" project, they would be able to detect us. But this can take many years as the signal must travel long distances... I run SETI@Home so that I may contribute to the world in its finding for Extra Terrestrials. Extra Terrestrials, unlike in the media, will not go around dominating planets(I hope...). ETs may not even have the technology and their intelligence may even be that of a hamster. Searching for a REALLY intelligent cosmic life form may take alot of time, maybe even centuries. I do hope that the SETI@Home project will discover something out there in the vast emptiness of the universe.
