Personal background
from Recife (PE-Brazil), an incredible city to live in: full of contrasts everywhere, hunger X luxury, fun X suffering, knowledge X ignorance, beauty X horror, beaches X countryside, clear sky X rainy day, all that things. In deed, and at this moment, I´m studying architecture at Oporto-Portugal (but for sure I´m coming back to Recife on September).
22 years old. On my 12´s I got my 'Astronomy Diploma' as an amateur, in a Astronomy Center of my neighborhood. I joined other mini-courses of holography, optical physics in general, also astronomy. I'm also a musician and play the piano on 2 bands (1 of blues/jazz and 1 of funk). I'm interested about quantic physics, although I don't know so much about it. But I´m, in deed, a city lover. In fact, I´m curious about human groups, and maybe that´s why I wonder about other intelectual groups/societies. That´s why I'm curious about extraterrestrial societies. I love people; from and far from Earth.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do believe in e.t. life's existence. And I do believe we will someday get some signs from them (if they are, at least, as developed as us). I don't want to think about their shape or things like that. I just want to feel their 'ideas', to know what they believe, how they process information and, specially, how they relate to themselves. I leave shapes and ships for Hollywood, who have already corrupted our minds about it.
I also believe that we've already sent an spacial item to 'them'. Probably there are many boxes full of information about our world lost in space. Unfortunately I feel that 'we' are not still developed that much to be able to fill a box with the most relevant information about our world. Any kind of effort within this sense will be a fake. The supposed right thing to be done was to amplify somehow the radio waves or try to point it to deep space, so when 'they' get this signal thay will have all the information 'we' have about our world. Of course I know it will probably take a severe period of time to reach other galaxies, but I still think this is a fair method of approach. Echo theory. I have all my life to wait. And our next generation and so on.
Run seti@home is an act of faith and patience. Because I believe we are still able to make this world better with our OWN effort. We shouldn't mix the things.
