Personal background
I am from Chicago, Illinois, 18, and fascinated with astronomy. Ever since reading the book "Contact", I have been fascinated with the prospect of life existing elsewhere in the universe. I have many abilities with many things, but astronomy has my interest the most.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do believe strongly in extraterrestrial life. I think that if we were to come into contact with another race of sentient beings, and they were able to show us how to reach the stars, the human race would start to "grow up". Since the universe is big enough for every person on earth to have his own private planet, I think it would be a tremendous and profound discovery. It would end conflicts, overpopulation, and most greed. We would enter an age where humans could better themselves, or be left in the dust. Some people call this viewpoint very over-optimistic, but I do believe in it strongly. The thing that's so exciting is that we can make contact at any time. It could happen today, or happen in 100 years. I am running SETI at home in order to say I'm doing my part until I can become a radio astronomer. If my computer were to discover bona fide alien transmissions, then I would have a part in one of the most significant events ever to take place in mankind's history.
