Personal background
I live in Indianapolis, Indiana, but originally from Columbus, Ohio. I am 46 years old, divorced, have four children...one of the 4 is still living with me...my son who is 17. I retired from the military service in the summer of 1995 and now working for an autoparts store. My hobbies include: writing poetry {I have had some of my work published in anthologies throughout the world}; sci fi, a trekkie...but not overly religious about it; I have interests in astronomy, dinosaurs, evolution, physics {anything to do with space}; star gazing...my favorite constellation is "Orion"; I have always been fascinated with the universe, even as a child. I wanted to be an astronaut, to fly to the moon; I even wanted to be superman to get there quicker. I like to shoot pool, walk in the park and other things my mind and heart agree upon. I have an associate degree in science, lacking a few hours from my bachelor.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe there is life in space, maybe not like us...but surely something. It would be nieve on our part to think we are that special to be the only life in the vast universe. How and when we discover lifeforms beyond our own solar system will depend upon our willingness to continue the research, the funding to keep it going; and the willingness of the human race to join SETI's cause and help out in the endeavor. What's to say that we haven't already been visited by extraterrestrial life in the past or even now. The benefits of such a discovery, if a superior race, would be overwhelming: new medical technology...the cure for the common cold; advance technology...beam me up, scotty! But, on the other hand, we might contact a conquering race...as the Romans centuries ago...and we would be in a world of hurt...not to mention the possibility of the end of what we call the human race. But, we as humans must take the risk of sending out information about who we are and where we are at. This is call human hospitality. I have been involve with SETI before back in the early 80's. I was a member of the Planetary Society and even had a telescope. But I fell by the wayside. Now I am back and involve with the SETI@home project. I believe as many other seti@home users that we can make a difference in finding other life forms in our vast universe. I think the project is a great move into the future.
