Profile: Shantel

Personal background
Hi! I'm Shantel, but my nickname is Suzie. Ya go figure that one.
I live in the Denver metro area. I just moved to Arvada, kinda NW of Denver, in the burbs.
I'm a teen and I live on my own. I work at a ok job, but i wish that i had a more science based job.
I'm 4'10½" skinny, with really long strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes.
I have a really OLD computer cause it's all i can afford. Itsa Compaq P3, 933MHz, w/512 Mega RAM. Works great! But it's like an artifact in the computer world.
I do pretty good in school, esp. science classes. I also really am into alternate energies. They just make sense. I got started on SETI b/c of a COSMOS video that led me to the Planetary Society's page, so I thought I'd sign up. I'm REAL GLAD I did! This has been a really cool experience! I hope that i can go to college too! I really want to learn more about astronomy and cosmology, and our own planet too.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
You know, I really LOVE the idea of SETI! It's an AWESOME idea! I think the thing that people need to remember is Earth's own history BEFORE getting all discouraged about maybe not finding signals right away.
If you think about it, like most of Earth's history we always had life on our planet and intelligent life too, but not technology developed.
What I mean is, if another planet were looking for ETs like we are, and they were doing their search in around the time Jesus was alive, would they get an answer? No. Was there intelligent life on our planet? YES!
Just I guess keep in mind we only been able to HEAR for about 50 years, I don't know, maybe less then that. We could be signaling or listening to a slice of space one night that has it's own version of a Roman Empire on it, and we'd never hear a thing. So please don't get discouraged if you don't find the magic signal. Maybe 2,000 years ago someone on a planet a lot like ours was listening to OUR slice of space one night, and heard nothing.
That's also howcome it's important to help get the SETI telescope project off the ground! Please donate if you can! :)
You know, I don't do this for a HS class or for extra credit, or cause I HAVE to. I'm doing it cause I love science and maybe finding friends in the universe. :)
Oh! Don't forget to check out the Planetary Society's page too! Lotsa cool stuff there and when you sign up, some of the money comes back here and you get really cool stuff too! :)
