Personal background
Interested in the stars since I was old enough to notice them, but at 38 realizing SETI@Home is as close as I'll likely ever be! I'm an Army Officer stationed in New Brunswick, Canada (though I am originally from Alberta!). I've a keenly intelligent and lovely wife and two incredible young daughters who humour their Dad enough to go out on warm summer nights to peer at the stars and learn constellations.

It would seem then, that despite not being a an astronaut I am rich in all the things that count!

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe that arrogance is the only explaination against other intelligent life among the myriad of stars in a myriad of galaxies. I don't know if SETI is going to give us the clue we seek to confirm this, or if we should be looking another way. Personally, I'd like us to just find a way to get out there and explore (though keeping in mind some of the errors of such exipeditions from our past).

I am a soldier. I believe that given the time lines involved (some old races, some new, most not able to reach us {if any can...}) we have already disclosed Earth's position by our RF spillage and a Beacon isn't going to do any great harm. I'd prefer it was constructed on Mars, but if you get that far, Earth is going to be noticed anyway, right?

I run SETI@Home because I believe this is a project for Humanity, and we are not generally offered the opportunity to make real contributions as individuals very often. You can using this software.
