Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run seti on 5-6 computers-- a backup server, a linux box, and several PC's. I am especially fond of the commandline NT client on my pc at work. My best performance came from running the linux client on a dual processor machine with a cable modem connection. I ran 6 copies of seti at a time on that baby!

I first heard of Seti back in high school when Carl Sagan's "Cosmos" came out. The movie "Contact" also made a big impression on me. When I discovered I could participate by running seti@home, I jumped at the chance.

Because of the huge distance involved, I don't think we'll make contact with other civilizations any time soon, so we might as well get started now. Transmitting a beacon is a good idea.
