Profile: Lee T. Neidow

Personal background
Retired from UAL after 32 years and 1 heart attack. Moved from SFO to
Michigan which I discovered is not the intellectual capital of the world,
and which inspired me to search for intelligence elsewhere. When not occupied
as a change agent here and political activist, I enjoy working with high
fidelity audio amplification equipment. I'd enjoy hearing from other UAL'ers
and swapping experiences.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. If it exists I think that the chance of our discovering it is probably
low, but I continue to be optimistic.

2. My guess is that we've *already* sent out a number of "beacons" and
continue to do so. I'm inclined to think that if other civilizations
have been able to detect us that (1) they have to be smarter than we are
technologically, 2) have survived in spite of their technology and (3)
have decided that we are too primitive to make it worth their while to
intentionally establish communication with us.

3. I run SETI because I'm still optimistic and hope I can make a contribution,
and also because it doesn't require me to do work, which I avoid whenever
possible. I also enjoy participating in an effort that involves so many
people who really know what they are doing, something I find a diminishing
personal characteristic in many people today.
