Personal background
I'm a programmer/web monkey/dba/server admin/etc for a predominant security software/hardware company -- basically you could say I'm a jack-of-all-trades for the computer industry since I do just about anything from IT maintenance to develop financial applications to create security protocols for our mainframe servers. I have been working in the computer industry for 15 years (20 unoffically) and have loved every minute of it's development. I've seen everything from the first membrane keyboard home systems (z81) to the 8088 to the Pemitums and above -- no I'm not a fan of the Mac so I don't know much about them. Currently am running 11 quad Xeon P3 and P4 servers with 1Gig-16Gig RAM, 8x72Gig SCSI drives for my backend servers that currently run SETI and my workstation. I love to play hockey, light weapons/rapier fighting (sca.org), and anything on the computer (gaming mostly).
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do I think extraterrestrial life exists? Well, I believe that God did place us on this planet, so ... well heck yes it's possible life does exist elsewhere. Why would God just limit himself to us here on Earth? Why could he have not placed others like us on other planets? Maybe there are "alien" type creatures (non-hominid and human alike). I cannot say for certain, but I will not be close minded and say that we are the only race in the universe. I mean God DID create the beautiful heavens, right? One look at another galaxy and I am certain that there must be life elsewhere. The universe is a beautiful place to get lost in ..

Should humans transmit a beacon? Well, yes and no .. yes because it may help facilitate those already galaxy hopping to locate us. No because that may bring unwanted guests .. ones that are not already amongst us. It must be a peaceful, simple transmission that extends an invitation to meet or just a simple hello (okay, thinking "Close Encounters ..." here).

Why do I run SETI? Because it's there .. because I have many idle CPU cycles to burn .. because I like to assist where I can .. because I want to be able to really see if there is (not) life beyond the blue sky. I run it for fun .. I run it for curiosity sake. Suggestions? I don't have a thing .. views? Well, beyond what I've said and that I like running it .. I just hope the close minded individuals get off their tuff, get a few slaps to the brain and wake up and see that God could have given other planets an "Adam and Eve." Even if you don't believe in God .. and you believe that the Big Bang just "happened" .. the probability that there are at least two planets in the whole universe with the exact same properties to allow the development of "man" are good (even if the other "man" breaths a methane atmosphere).
