Profile: Leif Chr. Andresen

Personal background
I am 42 years old (born 1963) and live i Denmark, the city of Sonderborg, close to the German border.

I am a chemist and now I work for 6 local communities, inspecting that everything i allright with the local enviroment. The danish enviroment is very wellregulated, so I have a lot of paperwork to do. People from other countries would say that the danish enviromental laws is very rigid, but Denmark has a very dense population, so rules are necessary.

I have a wife and 3 kids, the last one was born 2001 on my birthday, so when I grow old, at least one of the boys will not forget my birthday ;-)

I like diving, swimming, fishing and bicykling. Another hobby is politics, I am a member of a political party.

I have been running SaH since 1999. I stopped SaH Classic at 750 wu. Now I am running SaH BOINC.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Do you think extraterrestrial life exists? If so, when and how will humans discover it? What are the possible benefits and dangers of such a discovery?

I think so, but I am not sure. Anyway, that's what SETI is about, to answer that question.

2. Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find? If so, what information should we send?

A small beacon would be good, what if everybody else in the galaxy listens in silence like ourselves? The beacon should only contain the information "here we are, come and pay us a visit".

3. Why do you run SETI@home? What are your views about the project? Any suggestions?

I am scientificly educated, and I find it interesting to do scientific work, even without raising a finger ;-) When the whole sky is scanned without finding anything, SETI should try again with other base frequencies.
