Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Umm... I'll take possible topic 2 please Bob.

2. Yeah, why not transmit a beacon. I mean, no harm in it anyhow. Chances of coming across an alien race who really just want to wipe us out are minimal. But then, chances of coming across an alien race are quite minimal. The universe is a big place.
As for what we should send? Well... A signal, would be a good start. Something simple that could be picked up by software like Seti@home. I mean we're using it, why wouldn't they?
