Personal background
I'm 24 and live in Michigan just outside Detroit, I'm a bartender and a student. My major is Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Physics. Some of my favorite things to do are hunting, playing hockey, watching football, and drinking a few beers. I guess I'm your average 24 year old guy. Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'm Atheist therefore I believe in no god, however I had a good conversation with a Christian one day and they explained the unlikeliness of life spontaneously beginning, they claimed that there is a one in infinite chance of it ever happening, since calculus has always been my favorite subject I quickly responded with, "The universe is infinite, we must be that one shot." I had always believed that there must be others out there, but if the chances of intelligent life are, in fact, one in infinite then I concede my belief and I say we are alone. Nonetheless, I definatly think we should attempt to make contact, humans are curious by nature so we are going to attemt to make contact whether I like it or not! I run SETI just because my computer is fast so I might as well let it do something I'm interested in, even if I'm at my computer SETI is running. The only suggestion I would give is that the software people figure out a way to allow a computer to crunch more than one unit at a time, most computers nowadays can handle it.
