Personal background
Greetings to all you other earthbound humans, may our minds wonder the vast expanses that create the dimension we refer to as "space".
Hi, i'm Yogi, that's a nick as you may already guessed. I'm currently 26, I live in The Netherlands and I'm NOT a pot smoker for a change.
My life's currently somewhat turbulent right now, got married in September, wife having a baby December 10-2001 about 0830 cet ( sectio cessarea )
And I can't stand the thougt of our species being the only one in the galaxy, especially when new life starts so close to you, it's a real miracle.
As my occupation brings me back to the cradle of all of todays sciences everyday I've gained a special interest for matters concerning time.
I'm a watchmaker and a basic time freak. As time and space are connected ( at least I like to think so)the Seti project is a point of interest to me.
If there are any alien species around I'd like to know how they note the passing of time in general, or to use a pun "What makes them tick!".
Are their bodies adepted to their environments by the same basic principles as our bodies are to ours?
Do they wear watches, and if so,...do they need buttoncells to make their watches work?
Do they age, get sleepy or even have lunchtime, coffeebreaks and the likes?
I'd like to ask them ( as long as they speak Dutch or English though!)
And yes, Yogi comes from the Bear in Yellistone Park!
So, go SETI go!
Stop yappin'and start crackin'and let's find those..erm...entities
cu.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
About Seti : Seti is an interesting project converging all the possible computing power into one focalpoint.
I'd like to see some more projects using the same system. Decoding other stuff or computing large calculations which would other wise take years on a cray or some other bigbuckspc
Seti should recieve more funding to expand it's field of research into other topics of deep space research or stellar sciences, employing the help of the whole world of course.

ET : If ET is out there, I don't know. But my gut tells me YES! It would be a shame to waste all that space on one species that can't even leave it's own solarsystem (yet).
I think that ET will show it´s face when it wants to and not earlier. Watching our behaviour I´d be somewhat shy to say Hello!
All the pictures and clips concerning the war on terrorism are being beamed inot outerspace. What would they say when they would see these pictures for the first time=
" Well, they seem like a friendly bunch of organisms, lets go and say Hi to them!"
I don´t think so!!
The possible benefits could be medical, cultural or even religous.
The possible dangers could be medical, cultural or even religous.

Should humans transmit a beacon,...we are transmitting already.
Is that wise, I don´t know,..but we´ll know when ET comes by to borrow the hedge clippers won´t we?
In any case we´re transmitting information about aour true nature right now.
We´re telling them ( in my opinion ):Hey, we come in peace, but we´ll shoot to kill if we feel like it, but normaly we´re ok guys!"
If we´re gonna send directed data somewhere lets make it short, catching and decodable, something from close encounters or something similar seems nice enough

Why do I run SETI:
I´d like to do my part in the discovery that´ll turn around human history.
If it´s proven that a signal is a good clean one every participant can say :
Hey, have you read the headlines lately. I´m a part in that discovery and I´m proud of it!!"

Any suggestions :
