Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes, I think life exists in other places. Intelligent? maybe. It may be that the reason we have not discovered them is that their conversing with us may be like us sending signals to a mushroom. I am not sure our ego allows us to put ourselves in the proper place in the total scale of space evolution.

Discovery of aliens would be great if they do not look upon us as a source of protein, however, I do believe that a locating beacon would be an acceptable risk. Our time on this planet is limited and we may someday need bus service to some other lodging.

Seti may be like looking for the proverbial needle but will never be found without someone starting a search.

As to the origin of the universe, I truly believe that it has always existed, has no limits, and that there never was a beginning. The random state of change that we are able to observe, and the total time of observation, is extremely limited in scope. It has always been going on and always will be doing so in a space of infinite dimension. Light from distant star systems millions of light years away that we use to look back in time would be less than a msec when compared to infinity.

I also believe that some mathematical relationship exists between matter, energy, and space. Given the proper means one could be converted into the other. The unexplained large release of energy from quasars and black holes may be the result of matter converting into space. Remember that other than measuring distance, space is an unknown unpalpable quantity and may be different than presently held beliefs.

I also believe I may be as nutty as fruit cake. Update 7-4-03. Certainty has set in!
