Personal background
I was born in El Paso, Texas (borders Juarez, Mexico) and lived there until attending college at Texas A+M University, where I majored in Mechanical Engineering. I had little exposure to computers up to that point, but was immediately hooked after taking the first engineering computing class (essentially a strctured programming class on several different UNIX platforms, mainly FORTRAN). Since then I have worked for major companies in the aircraft (jet) engine and industrial turbine industries. Although I entered the work force as a designer and structural analyst, I've spent most of the last years working in I.T., architecting the engineering computing systems and compute grid.

For fun (who has time for that?), I enjoy anything dealing with boats, skiing, and salt water fishing. (Ironic for someone born in the middle of the desert!)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Life exists here, and given the scale of the universe, it certainly exists elsewhere. Its probable that intellegent life exists as well. Regrettably, it is unlikely given the distances involved that any interaction other than by radio communication will ever bring us in touch with each other. That is where SETI comes in, and its why I'm willing to dedicate some of my computer resources to the SET@home project. I hope that my contribution can help in identifying any such life!
