I am a 1977 born student of electrical engineering in University of Oulu. My major subject is embedded systems and I am planning to do my master's thesis by the end of year 2003.
My real name is Jouni, but among my friends I am usually known as Näpä (read Naepae). I am a huge fan of Fantasy literature as some of U have already guessed and my favourite character is (of cource) Raistlin Majere. My other hobbies are badminton, listening music (mostly European metal music) and all too often just watching TV...

| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |

The universe is pretty huge place so I believe that extraterrestial life does exist. On the other hand it maybe that their level of technology is even lower than ours and thus it will take several centuries until we meet, if even then... Benefits and dangers of such contact are of cource grave, but my belief is that because we humans are so warlike race, the contact can't produce a danger we couldn't have anticipated.
In question whether we should build a beacon for other races to find, my oppinion is that our TV network does the work. At least it's showing of a true face of mankind...
I run SETI@home cause I want to add my share into the important mission. Although there are other noble causes also e.g. "Cure for Cancer"-research, I want to believe that the "First Contact" is the most important day of mankind. |
