Personal background
User of the Day for 12/5/2017. (shout-out: If your car doesn't plug in, it's not cool!) I hadn't updated my profile in over 10 years, that's embarrassing. Since then, I've actually moved to Berkeley's backyard, now living in Oakland and working in San Carlos.

FWIW, I actually also have +1,249,527 more credit under a different account I didn't realize was created separately, but hooray BOINC, accounts can't be merged. I'm also user ID 8522713, /shrug

I use SETI@Home and many other grid-computing projects as room heating. That's how you get >100% efficiency out of a room heater - instead of just converting electricity to heat, I'm converting it to computation, then to heat. :)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I dunno... From the current rate, this is what would happen if one of the following countries discoevered extraterrestrial life:

USA: We'd either:
--1. buy their oil or other fuels
--2. put a McDonald's there
--3. put a Starbucks there
-- 4. find a reason to blow them up
Canada: actually make friends because they're cool guys eh
Mexico: Export stuff!
China: See Mexico.

Anyway... :P
