| Personal background |
I live near Port Phillip Bay here in Melbourne, with three cats; Matilda, Jack and Kimba. I've always been a sci fi buff, and signed up with seti@home in 1999 as soon as I heard about it. I used to run the program on a modified 486 with 32 meg of RAM, so I would get thru a unit a week, but finally got a new pooty late last year, and can get thru a unit a day, hurrah!
Since I installed seti, a lot of things have changed for me. I became single again, Matilda joined the family, I met Raymond E Feist (fantasy book fans will know this name, an amazing moment for me), had the entire IT industry go bust on me and sending me out of work twice, started writing a novel and learnt to burn CDs. Oh, and read a LOT of books. It's been fun! I look forward to many more years of seti. |
| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
| I'm a Star Trek fan from way back, but I can't quote swathes of the show, or name every character or episode (those that do, scare me). However I love the concept of the show; humanity united in peace, looking for new friendships beyond our planet. I hope one day that Gene Roddenberry's vision is realised, that we as humans have hope beyond our inherant need to kill each other and decimate our living quarters. Hopefully the day seti@home finds someone out there willing to listen to us, we'll be ready to welcome them with open arms and happy hearts. |
