Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I have always said " Who are we to be so arragant to think that in the all the universe we are the only integellent life. " I said this to my 14 year old daughter just yesterday when she ask me why I put SETI@home on my computer.
She is young enough she was unaware of such things as Rosewell and I was blind enough to not know that they do not teach this in school. I think that for us to discover other life we will have to be more informed of what is going on in the world in order to be more informed of what is going on in the universe. I am sure that we will discover one day that we are not alone and that we never where as to how to do this I am not sure. But I will try to do my part as best as I can I am sure we will never find it if we do not look. We should never stop looking with all of the resorces available and we should work on discovering more resorces to use. I have always assumed that extraterrestrial life would be as advanced as we are or more so but that is not nessarily true so I think we should send a beacon to transmit where we are and that we want to learn and do not want to harm others. Of course getting our goverment to go along with that might be a chore expecially the not harm others part. Some of the benifets I am sure would be knowlage of others which is something we as humans have always done. we strive to learn as much about other civilations that did exist here on earth so why should we not want to learn about the civilations not on earth. One of the dangers is that maybe they don't want to be found and that is why we have yet to find them. I do think that as long as we send a message that we mean no harm that they will return those same feelings after all we treat people however they treat us. I think that we need to educate our children to belive that we are not alone out here and our schools do not even touch that subject which I find appalling even if you don't belive in something that dose not give you the excuse to pretend that it dose not exist.
