Personal background
Hi,
I'm Kevin Chamness, fellow earthling (most of the time). I live in west Texas, but I'll soon be moving to Boston, just in time to embrace the wonderful winter there... I'll be working at a university there, the "center of the universe..." (apparently the person who made this adage stick isn't aware of the basics of cosmology). My hobbies include breathing and eating. I can't seem to shake these nasty habits. I've sucessfully shed a former habit, thinking. I don't miss it (much)...
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Seti@home is the coolest thing since sliced bread.
I think extraterrestrial life exists, and they are fortunate that we haven't found them. I think the reason that we haven't found our nearest ET neighbors is fodder for a sitcom. Have you seen that one where the "weird" family visits their neighbor, not knowing that the other family are hunkering down in the living room with all the lights off, hoping that the weird ones will go away? I think that is the main reason we haven't found anyone out there yet. You see, they've seen all of our "I Love Lucy" reruns, our grim news broadcasts, and all of our other material that we've ejected into space, and they've determined, quite frankly, that the denizens of earth are looney. They've "turned out the lights," hoping that we'll move on and not bother them. We are the door-to-door salespeople of the universe. Ha.
