1. Sentient ET life is a great unknown, but the odds are in favour of yes. Humans will discover it eventually and most likely by luck. (be it good or bad :-) ). I run Seti because I have the resources to and I believe it's a worthwhile project. Finding sentient life anywhere in this universe* could be the greatest disovery mankind could hope to achieve.
* Anywhere, including earth!
