Personal background
I am a born and bred Ohioan (which, I assure you, is nothing to be too proud of), currently residing in the sleepy, conservative town of Medina with my wife, Heather, and her two children. I am 32 years old, and am still curious as to what I will be when I grow up.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Q.1) Do you think extraterrestrial life exists? If so, when and how will humans discover it? What are the possible benefits and dangers of such a discovery?

A.1) I can only assume that there is, since there is no concrete, physically presentable evidence. But to gaze at the starry vastness, knowing that there is infinitely more than just us in this universe, I can naught but believe that the asumption is correct. That we will hear from these distant intelligences in my life time, I have litle hope. But I've always believed that things don't happen to or for you until you're, in some small way, ready for them to come at you, and I think that that is the case here. The Earth will hear when it is ready to hear, and I don't think that it is, on the whole, yet ready. Sad but true, folks.

Q.2) Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find? If so, what information should we send?

A.2) I think that broadcasting our mean intelligence level across the vastness of space for others to pick up would only be a hinderance to the process. Really, if you were out there and saw our planet ringing on Caller I.D., would you pick up the phone? Yeah, I thought not.

Q.3)Why do you run SETI@home? What are your views about the project? Any suggestions?

A.3) I run it to feel like I'm contributing to something that I normally wouldn't have the brainpower in which to participate. I am a layman in the grandest of terms when it comes to the space sciences, so this effort gives me something to hold on to other than the odd Nova program or issue of Discover or nasa.gov. Plus, I like the pretty colors in the graphs. *g*
