Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1.No, I don't think it exists, but you never know. We will most likely be discovered as opposed to us discovering "it". And if we do discover "it", "it" will be most likely by accident.
Benefits? Seeing how the rest of the universe exists.
Dangers? Seeing how the rest of the universe exists...and finding out that some of the outlandish ideas sci-fi writers have come up with over the years are true.

2.Sure, we should transmit beer commercials. There are an overabundance of them already and they're useless so why not put them to a better use. Seriously though, I believe music would be the best because it represents a feeling without having to use language (which could be an obvious barrier in communication).

3.I run it because it doesn't hurt my pc or the system that it's tied to and I'm helping out, which always feels good. My views on the project? I don't really know enough about it to have any of those yet...but it seems like it's a worthy cause. Anything that explores possibilities and/or pushes our knowledge base that much further is good. I'm sure if you ask some of the guys who work @ SETI they'll tell you how many tangents of thought have sprung off of an initial idea...
