Personal background
I am a 30-something Computer Programmer from Florida.

I enjoy most computer related activities as well as Sci-Fi..

I currently Run Seti@Home on both of my home computers, and am planning
to build more machines just to run Seti@Home. I'd REALLY like to see my
name on the list right above Seti@Sun.. :)

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'm sure we aren't alone in the universe. And to date, I honestly believe
Seti@Home offers the greatest chance of detecting signs of life out there.
When we do finally find them, One of 2 things will happen, Either it will
be a weak signal from someone less advanced or equal to us, posing little
or no threat, or it will be a race greatly ahead of us, hopefully past the
petty stage of conquest, and quite possibly, trying very hard to not be
noticed by us. I really don't think they will be a danger, and hope they don't
give us technology we aren't mature enough as a people to have., Maybe with a
little luck, they will take away the technologies we have, that we aren't
ready for... :)

Should we send transmit a beacon? Well, Haven't we already send several? Between
space probes like Voyager, and our beaming of transmissions to satallites?
The only question is, What will they think of what we are sending. Programs like
Gilligans Island? Star Trek? The Chamber? Will they understand that they are
entertainment or will they believe that since they are transmitted in the same
fashion as CNN Headline news, that they are different classes or our people...

I chose to get involved in the Seti@Home project because I believe it is a
great way to utilize my previously wasted CPU Idle time.. I run it on both my
machines full time, and seldom turn them off.
