Personal background |
I was born in New Zealand.
My occupation is a Receptionist.
My hobbies are in the areas of space (astronomy & spaceflight), radio (amateur
& shortwave), digital photography and computing (linux, programming and web
design).
I am a Linux software developer and support person for WiNRADiO Communications
(see their http://www.linradio.com page) and am currently working on version 1.1
of my first ever GUI program - wrgtk which uses the GIMP Tool Kit C library.
Version 1.0 can be found on the above website.
I have assisted Murray Bott on occasion with UFO post-investigation trying to
match up satellite orbit passes and re-entries.
I am Auckland Branch Secretary for the New Zealand Radio DX League, Inc.
(NZRDXL) and have been a member since 1983. I enjoy several times yearly
DXpedition weekend outings to get away from busy and radio frequency noisy
Auckland. I edit a monthly English Broadcasts in Time Order column for the
club's NZ DX Times magazine (of shortwave loggings).
I hold a General class amateur radio license with the callsign ZL1GYM. I'm
hardly active these days but have in the past enjoyed packet radio,
80 and 2 metre band nets, occasion contests, and my one and only CW contact on
80 metres! I follow a bit of ATV.
I enjoy the occasional astronomy observing sessions with 2 telescopes - a 5"
Newtonian and a 14" Dobsonian. Have experimented with PAL CCD cameras on both.
