Personal background
I'm 38 (as of 2/22/2). I'm a web developer an ex-Microsoftie. I've been working on my out dot com startup for 3-years now, without pay. My savings have dried up so if I don't find funding fast, I'll have to find a "real job". I'm into watching movies, TV, playing racquetball, snowboarding, off-roading in my SUV, Mt. Biking, hiking, camping, and writing web pages. I love the outdoors and staying healthy. I love to push my physical and mental limits. I never stop learning and exploring. My purpose in life is "Adventure"! Life should be exciting so I've decided not to let marriage or kids get in the way of my dreams.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'm certain ET life exists all throughout the universe. The universe contains 50-100 billion galaxies each containing 50-100 billion stars. Do the math! The Milky Way Galaxy is made up of 100 billion stars. Our solar system is in a quiet suburb near the edge of one of the spiral arms. The nearest galaxy is 10 million million million miles away. At the speed of light, it would take 2 million years to reach. It's a big place and I believe someday humans will spread to other galaxies and discover life of all forms imaginable and unimaginable. I suspect we will find some form of animal and/or plant life within our solar system once we have thoroughly explored it. I think it will be thousands of years before we come across animal/plant/mineral life that exhibits what we would consider "intelligent behavior" and perhaps tens of thousands of years before humans discover life they consider more evolved than humans. Benefits of finding life would possibly be combining our DNA with theirs to create new breeds of humans that could breathe a foreign atmosphere and withstand higher radiation and perhaps be able to exist in a vacuum. Humans are way too fragile. If we're going to travel the stars, we're going to need to mutate and adapt to withstand lower/higher temperatures, radiation, high/low pressures, and so on. I run SETI because I want to be part of this historical effort and I hate wasting CPU cycles on idle. I love SETI and hope someday they’ll setup some planet size dishes in space. It's a big universe and we've got to think BIG!
