Personal background
Hi from up North in the Capital of Cold, Canada.
Or maybe East or West depending where you live. I'm from Vancouver and an avid fan of the Vancouver Canucks and of the fastest game on ice, hockey. I also enjoy watching anything related to Science Fiction and found out about Seti@home by watching the Space Channel.

As of today (Nov, 11 2002) I'm 17 years old and just graduated from Burnaby North Secondary School. If you happen to be from there too join the Burnaby North group which sadly only has me and a friend :( O well.

Currently I'm sharpening my English and Chemistry while waiting for January 2003 to come around so I can start studying at BCIT and work myself to death. But even if that happens my computer will still be on and be contributing to this excellent program.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence is an integral part of our future in space. What better drive is there to explore the rest of space than to find out if anyone else is out there? There's always the capitalist's version about going to the moon to strip it of resources, but it wouldn't be feasible for a single company (no matter how big, microsoft included) to build a ship that would travel to alpha centauri and beyond. It would-WILL- take enormous resources to do just a thing, but if evidence of ET is detected the international community would probably band together to reach and grab those stars.

The transmitting a beacon for other aliens to find has always been a big of a problem for me. If we send out a beacon and someone-thing detects it, they probably detected it thousands or tens of thousands (maybe even millions) of years after it had been sent out and by then Humans have become extinct by
over-population or would have the ability to travese the stars.

SETI@home is a great boon to this venture. With the help of people like you (and me:D) we'll find the evil planet conquering or the peaceful alliance creating aliens we've all been dreaming for.
