Personal background
I am a 47 year old IT assistant living in Derby in the UK.

My interest in the possibility of finding inteligent life nearby in our galaxy has been with me for over 30 years since I read my first Science Fiction. It is more of a reality now than ever before as we have extremely sensitive receiving equipment as our tools. Personally I think the biggest problem we may have is that we may just be in the wrong place at the moment, between spiral arms.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think my children, all under 11 years, are very lucky. They are going to be living in a world where listening in to other civilisations in the galaxy will be commonplace. Maybe out of this we will be able to learn how to communicate and travel between the stars quickly and economically.

I just wonder that, if it is possible to communicate faster than light speed, we are looking for results in the wrong place. I have long imagined a galaxy with a network of civilisations communicating freely with each other, faster than light, without fear. They do not fear giving each other all their secrets because interstellar travel is 'impossible'.
