Personal background |
I was born and raised in Colorado and planned to live in the mountains my whole life! However, while working at Winter Park ski area, I met a guy who skiied well, loved to fish, hike and camp and promptly fell in love...THEN I FOUND OUT HE FARMS IN NEBRASKA!!! Too late! I was already hooked! So, here I am, teaching school in Nebraska, learning more than I ever wanted to know about farming! On the positive side, I check our cornfields regularly for signs of ET and observing the night sky out here is almost as good as in the Rockies!
I teach 4th grade and try very hard to be the teacher that exposes them to sci-fi writing and dreaming about "what's out there". Reality is that it is very difficult to find 4th grade reading material in that genre. So, we do a lot of space studies, watching for comets and neat night sky events. I share my love of Star Trek and Star Wars and tell them often that I'm waiting for the day transporters are available....I'll be on one!
In the meantime, I travel with my two kids a lot, my husband comes along when he can leave the farming. We have an alpaca, are learning to spin his fiber, and will hopefully make something wonderful with it. Raising fiber animals may be my retirement project in about 30 years! I'll be too broke to travel! |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
Of course ET life exsists! I cannot possibly believe that God created this whole wonderful universe and all the galaxies, etc. and never created any other life except on this one little planet! He's way too talented for that! I'd like to believe that the benefits would outweigh any dangers of encountering another life form. After all, we are searching peacefully, gathering knowledge, and I would think other beings would too. Also, I think THEY will discover US!
Transmit a beacon? Hmmm. That would presume that we would know how to communicate with any other life form? Not necessary, they're looking, we're looking, we'll find each other!
I run SETI@home because it's like playing the lottery! I want the thrill of possibly being the first to recognize that ET that is out there looking for other ETs. I figure the odds are just as good too! This is a wonderful project, makes you feel involved in the work being done and there are a lot of interesting things to explore on the website! Thanks for doing this! |
