| Personal background |
| Currently studying Bioengineering in my Junior year. 21 years of age, and currently residing in Toledo, OH, USA. Have always been fascinated by the "other world" even before E.T. came out on the big screen, and thus my only hobby is to observe the night skies through the telescopes. Here in Toledo, the University has a really good observatory and i sepnd endless nights there studying and watching the skies. There's so much to learn and in turn so much to tell people about. I think it is important to educate people in this area as it will be one of mankinds major focusses in another 5 years to come. With the way things are going now, I believe we have to spread our horizons and the only way to do this would be to to be educated about it. As they say in X-Files, "The Truth is out there!" |
| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
The probability of finding life other than ours is very small, but the fact that the probability exists is strong enough for me to believe in it. The entire reason for SETI to exist may seem science fictional for the majority of the population but to be ignorant about something that is factual is a choice for the individual itself. SETI may take a long time to actually come up with something significant enough for others to sit up and take notice, but hey, someone should do it right? And the fact that SETI was set up is an immense achivement in itself.
I also believe that we as humans, sitting around waiting for a signal to materialise, should in turn send out signals of our own into the outside, for maybe there exists other races who are waiting for some sort of signal to mateirlise on their screens. The information that may be included in such signals could range over a lot of topics such as the geographical information of the Earth, the population of this planet, messages of peace and the fact that we would like to make contact to with them over peaceful conditions, etc etc.
The reason why I run SETI at home is mainly because my computer in the lab just has too much running on it while that at home just sits around doing nothing the entire day. For this reason, I hoped that I could make my contribution to SETI, and well, I just finished my first bit of data translation for you guys.
All the best to the entire crew out there....we will make it one day, that's for sure. |
