Personal background
I live in Sweden and work with medical computer systems. I've used the SETI@home now and then for a couple of years now, I begun when I studied at uni, so I still have my university mail, and I'm still in my university-group.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Probably. I don't know if they have ever been to Earth, but hey just think about the size of the universe and all the millions of billions of planets out there. I think it would be most inprobable that we are alone. Dangers ? Can't see any... Just because all aliens are bad guys in 90 % of the movies doesn't have to mean that they are eh ? They're probably just as curious as we are. The benefits would probably be more a "cool thing" than anything else.. at least for now. I wouldn't want to have a conversation where we have to wait 20 years for a reply

2. I think we should. But frankly, how do we know that they tune their radio to our station. A good transmission would be to somehow send the location of the transmission, but how do we know they will understand.

3. It's a cool thing to do. SETI is cool. I mean since it doesn't cost me anything and then again there is a faint possibility that one day we will find a signal. I think the project is great, but I don't really understand all the nifty graphics in the program but it looks cool :)
