Personal background
I am a 25-year-old software engineer from Madison, Wisconsin. My specific area of interest is distributed application design using emergin Web-based technologies. I also enjoy game programming, and hope to develop and deploy a game that relies heavily on distributed processing to create a rich and diverse environment. I also enjoy music composition (on my computer) and rendering three-dimensional computer graphics.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I participate in SETI@Home because I consider it the most successful case study in deploying enterprise-level distributed software solutions. On the philosophical front, I am something of a skeptic with regard to the existence of extra-terrestial life. I adhere to a Biblical account of a universe no more than approximately 6,000 years old. If there is a larger context in which humans exist, I believe it is to be found in the realm of the spiritual rather than out in deep space. Given that the search for extraterrestial life is one of poor odds and an ambiguous timeline, I also do not support substantial government funding for such efforts.Nevertheless, SETI@Home is an intriguing project for my computer to chew on when it's not busy searching for new Mersenne prime numbers.
