Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The probability is that extraterrestrial life exists. The probability is low that we'll discover it within the short window of opportunity that exists for the generations that are currently living. The benefits could be enormous, and they may be non-existent. I'm far more interested in how the quest for the unknown aids the human condition in the here and now, generating a love for discovery and exploration.

I doubt that we need to transmit a beacon for ETs to find, as I would rather than we "have the advantage" by discovering ETs first. Unfair? Maybe. Wanna make something of it?

I run SETI@home because I have wanted to be part of this project for years. As hinted above, I believe it's vital for humanity to continue to reach beyond itself, despite the probabilities of benefits.
