Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Well, the worst thing is to start...

I know (not believe!) that there are extraterrestrial civilisations out there. But I don't think it will be easy to communicate even if we would have such possibility. Remember, that our interpersonal communication is depending on semantics of human language. That means that we think about everything the same way as we see (heat etc.) the world. We have four limbs, two eyes which receive electromagnetic radiation in specific band and many more organs.

Those extraterrestrial even if we could see them (the may be transparent or something) can't operate with earth's semantics because they are totally different. How creature without eyes (but with radar like bats) can understand the meaning of e.g. 'paint'???

Most people think that extraterrestrial intelligent creatures are similar to human but I wouldn't be so sure.
I think they could be also interested in finding other civilisations. I can't imagin how big should be satellite dish able to send signal to space that could be received.
And how would they know where send the signal? I don't know. But I hope even if they don't know, we will be able to receive 'blind' signal, locate the sender and start 'intergalactic communication'.

And I also hope that war is Earth's invention not known in Milky Way. But if UFO's really contain extraterrestrial creatures I think that civilisation able to travel in the space is smart enough not to be agressive.
