Personal background |
I live in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, population about 300,000 some 20 miles northwest of Toronto.
Hanover Consulting is my home-based computer consulting business. I provide network administration services to companies that are too small to require a full time staff.
I dropped out of the SETI project for about 10 years in 1997 and resumed participation this year. I find the current crop of processors is better able to multi-task, allowing SETI to run without rendering the computer useless for day to day use. |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I am a firm believer in extraterrestrial life, simply because I believe that statistics supports the probability that we are not alone.
It seems to me, that any sufficiently advanced civilization that could contact us, much less visit Earth, would hardly have any reason to be a threat. More likely they would simply ignore us altogether, at least until we can get "out and about" in the universe a bit more. I don't see any need to transmit a beacon. The EM radiation from the last 60 years is already out there - Charlie Chaplin will be our emissary to the stars...
The SETI project is one of the most interesting of the grid projects that are available for participation by the general public in a scientific adventure. I'm just waiting to see those regular spikes that say "Hey, Earthman! Look up!" |
