Profile: John UK Spondon

Personal background
Hi, I'm a married 60 year old retired railway engineer from the United Kingdom with two children. Paul, aged 32, and Neil, 30. One advantage of being this aged (the only one I can think off) is that I lived through the early exploration of space. Yuri Gagarin, Ranger, Surveyor, Mariner, Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, great times that I doubt will come again in my lifetime. It was this time that I got interested in astronomy, which I still am. I hope one day to visit the great obsevatories on the west coast of America. Good luck on the search.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The difficult question is, 'can life exist?. Can life come into being by some means and evolve into more complex forms. The answer is 'Yes', because we are here to ask the question.

Having answered the difficult question the next question is, 'can life exist elsewhere?'. Our Sun is not a special star, our galaxy is not special and space is so, so big with many many stars and galaxies. It seems impossible that in all of these stars that we are the only ones. It would be a waste of space.

I don't know if SETI will discover signs of extraterrestrial life but what I do know is that it is worth a look.
