Personal background
I am a senior computer repair technican at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida U.S.A.
I have been "crunching" SETI packets for over 2 years now, all of which have been produced on Macintosh computers!
My computer use background reaches back over 20 years, starting with my old Apple II computer. I was an electronic bulletin board system operator for 8 years, and lept to the internet once it arrived.
I met my wife on the electronic BBS scene before the World Wide Web got here, and we had a digital wedding service in 1989, typing our vows on our modem-connected computers,. The preacher officiating also had a terminal, and entered his part at the keyboard too. The guests watched monitors with transcripts of the entire event.
First wedding conducted in a "chat room"? Hmmm.. In 1989 there were no chat rooms...

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I use the SETI screen saver to keep all the computers I maintain "alive" and ready for network commands when I use Network Assistant.
I am happy to be able to contribute distributed computing power to such a lofty goal as interstellar communication and exploration. In a small way, we are all reaching toward the future. I hope that in my lifetime, we will finally connect with other sentient beings out there.
