Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
How I found and Why I run this client:It seems that your project is not well known in our country. But I like surfing the Internet to find eccentric tool kits in my spare time. So I found SETI@HOME at an astronautics website. I was surprised when I found that there are really some people finding E.T. like the peoples do in the movie X files. I thought it was interesting and downloaded it and have continued calculating assignments for about 100 units before I change my operation system. I withdrawed Windows and tried to force me to use Linux which is what I have to do because of the needs of my curriculum. I also found a SETI client in Linux and found it is unconvenient that I have to run it under the administrater role. Then it has been a long time since the last time I donated my computer calculation.
My opinion: I think it is an ambitious project which can be analogued with The Human Genome Project and Apollo plans. No matter it is a smart behavior or a stupid one, it is imaginative project which I never thought. There will be a radio telescope in Pingtang, Gui Zhou Province built in my country which will be bigger than Arecibo. I will suggest my country to take part in the project if possible.
SETI@home and Astropulse are funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, NASA, and donations from SETI@home volunteers. AstroPulse is funded in part by the NSF through grant AST-0307956.
