Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
As a huge Sci-Fi fan I joined Seti@home in 2001. I'm almost sure there's something out there. The movie Contact is one of the most realistic movies about what Seti@home is doing.

I have only one doubt: who says radio technology is something ET would use as a communications medium? We use radio technology for a little more than a hundred years. With the technological improvements we see every day, maybe radio technology will not hold for the coming 100 years. Let's say radio technology will be usefull for about 200 years. Then we're halfway it's application lifetime now. If we compare that with the development of a intelligent species (millions of years) than is this 200 years measurable? Won't radio technology be a small step to some better communications technology? "No", if we look at our own achievements. But then: a few hundred years ago people "knew" the earth was flat.

But until we find that "better technique" (if it's there) and start looking with that i'm just crunching my numbers with seti@home...
