hobby: science fiction (Star Trek, Stargate, various others)
hobby: electronics (ICs, PICs)
hobby: scuba (amateur recreational variety)

anything else:
Well, I'm a small-town-raised geek that grew up with Star Trek as my companion, so I believe that my ideals about civilization and advancement are fairly inline with the show. Perhaps, someday, the world might come together and reach out. I just like the idea that I'm helping to build some of the foundation for that.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Why do I run SETI@home? Mostly because I quite enjoy the idea that I'm searching for space aliens. hehe. I don't (yet) have the multi-million dollar budget to support my own radio telescope array, so in the meantime, I'm proud to contribute to the operation of yours.

2. What are my views about the project? I'm a pretty strong believer that sooner or later we're going to meet some extraterrestrials, so we should probably be watching out for them. The way I see it, the concept of "Do you believe in extraterrestrial life?" is simply not the way to look at it. Rather, the chance that they are NOT out there appears to be a near impossibility. Space is huge, it goes on practically forever - as far as we can tell. If it truly goes on with limitless boundary, then the probability that extraterrestrials exist approaches 100% the farther away you look, and the probability that there are limitless numbers of civilizations approaches 100% in the same fashion. Sure, they're probably very far away, but so was another continent, ages ago. The SETI@home project seems to be one of the few projects, if not the only project, where the average person can contribute to making contact with a new world. I believe that it's one of the most important projects our world has.

3. Any suggestions? Well, not really as far as the project is concerned. I think you guys are doing a terrific job and I'm pleased to help out. I do, sadly, quite miss the impressive screen-saver that I used to see back when I was running that other operating system - as I'm now a Linux geek. http://www.boinc-wiki.info/BOINC_Screensaver_Set-Up#Linux "Nothing yet!" aww, shucks.
