I'm a retiree with a computer science degree who uses his home LAN for research in computational physics. I'm running fortran, mathcad and C on various platforms. Seti runs right along with my research stuff. Occasionally I do piano and guitar and digital photography but the exploration of nature is what really interests me.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The anthropic principle claims life is a parameter of the universe necessary for quantum completeness. Whether any of it is of the type that SETI can communicate with is the question. The statistics say there must be. It is rather fun trying to find the answer. What's really interesting is thinking about all the non-scientific foolishness that says there isn't, a perfect foil for expanding your mind.
SETI@home and Astropulse are funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, NASA, and donations from SETI@home volunteers. AstroPulse is funded in part by the NSF through grant AST-0307956.
