Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I ve never been a practical astronomer, though I did study some at college some years ago. Back in 85', I remember some classmate interrupting my astronomy reading and warning me about our drawing professor had arrived and started the class. Apparently I didn't notice. I gave him this look, and of course, continued reading. ;)

Decided to hook up to SETI@home in April 2003, after reading a Scientific American article mentioning it and reading a bit in the homepage. I think SETI@home is a bright concept using the enourmous idle computing power throughout the world (probably very cheaply !), but also bringing all these people together and making us concious that we are all part of this unique species, inhabitanting of our blue ship, Earth. (yeah, if that sounded Saganian, you're probably right, i ve been an ardent reader of C. Sagan)

Undoubtedly there is life outthere.

Yes I think humans should transmit a beacon, signaling where we are, and some friendly description of us (though we may prove to be not that friendly !)
