Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
A perfect quote that was used in the film Contact, when asked if there was a possibility of life on other worlds.

"Well if there isn't, It seems an awfull waste of space."

I believe the laws of pure chance state there MUST be, but through the vastness of space, will our signals ever reach them in anyone's life time and will they even be able to decipher it. After all, we automaticly assume that they use the same technology as us, but what if they are still in the early stages of evolution.

If they do respond and it does reach us in thousands of years to come, will we ever be able to make first contact across such vast distances.

Although it doesn't matter to me if we can't, just the knowledge that we are not alone is enough for now.

We should all stop our petty bickering and fighting and work together as one nation on this project, as I believe that us humans must not be complacent nor content with who and where we are and strive to reach out like the explorers came before us. Imagine if Columbus never bothered to explore the new world.
