Personal background
I'm 57 and run a company called Cargolargo. We have a store in Kansas City, one in Sacramento, and one in Akron. We also sell under the name Cargolargo on Ebay.

I'm an amateur astronomer and am fortunate enough to live north of Kansas City on a farm that allows good viewing with only minimal light pollution from the KC metro area.

I have 2 grown sons out on their own, and a fourteen year old living at home. I hope that I’ve given them some inspiration to explore their curiosity and thirst of the known and the unknown. Once the fourteen year old's hormones settle down, a renewed interest in the universe, hopefully, will be forthcoming.

Well, I'm sure anyone reading this is just as anxious as I am to find some evidence of an ET, but it feels good to share my mundane thoughts with a fellow human who took the time check out a profile.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. The universe is far too large not to have other life forms, and not just algae-like species, but sentient beings or groups.

2. When I think of making a beacon, I think of how disappointed I was when a McDonald's sign was placed some 3 miles from my farm, disturbing my astronomy horizon. Seriously, I imagine the earth is already an unbelievably noisy beacon with our vast electromagnetic output on an incredible number of wavelengths.

3. I run SETI because it makes me feel good, and there is always the remote possibility that one of us will actually detect a radiating source that defies our knowledge of natural occurrences. That statement is tempered by the reality of distance and time becoming synonymous when listening to sources in the universe. Even if we discover a seemingly non-natural electromagnetic source, the time when it occurred could be millions of years in the past, and the life form that created it could have been super-novaed into oblivion. But, we still need to confirm their existences, hopefully before our own sun goes nova.
