Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes, I do think there is extraterrestrial life. I'm not sure how we will discover it. It would be great if it happened in our lifetime! I think that the benefits could be anywhere from medical to technology advances. The Danger could be not knowing anything about the life form and there for it could have the potential for unspeakable damage as well as good. I think a beacon would be a good idea and it should have a copy of the speach saying something along the lines of: We come in peace and invite you to see our world and would like you to expose yourself to us. It should also have a location of our planet. The SETI@home project is different and useful. I like the idea of being able to put my idle CPU cycles to use. What better way to put them to use than to help search for extraterrestrial life!
SETI@home and Astropulse are funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, NASA, and donations from SETI@home volunteers. AstroPulse is funded in part by the NSF through grant AST-0307956.
