Personal background
Hi, I'm a grad student in the field of education. I hold a BA from Bradford College. My hobbies include acting and debate. I love to read Stephen King novels and am an avid viewer of The X-Files. I have eclectic tastes in music, but generally dislike rap.

I run my own personal webpage, Amanda's Palace of Random Information, which functions as an entertaining glimpse into my life. I also manage a few sites on the side for fun, which is good because the people I'm managing the sites for are fairly lax in giving me content for their sites!

As for work, I am currently a policy debate coach for a high school team. In the summer I am a camp counselor. I am hoping to become an elementary school teacher.

That's me in a nutshell. Other words used to describe me include, but are not limited to: quirky, strange, upbeat, outspoken, clever, talkative, shy (go figure), friendly, pensive.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
While I do believe there is intelligent life somewhere else in the universe, I doubt they are waiting around for us to find them. My theory is, if we find some extraterretrial transmission, it won't be meant for us. We will be hearing something meant for another life form. Hey, I get other people's letters mixed in with my mail all the time. So why would it not be possible for something similar to occur in space?
I don't know when humans will discover ET intelligence, but we will sometime, and I would guess that sometime would not be too far in the future. There is life out there, scientists have already found microbes on Mars...that is a starting point. I bet it was a bit hard to swallow for those who firmly believed in the theory of Creation by God. There are still people out there who believe in Creationism. Then again, once people thought the world was flat. Things change, beliefs change, life changes. We will make contact. We are not alone, we never were.
That is why I run SETI@home. I want to make contact. Or at least find evidence of intelligent life beyond this galaxy. It think this project will be successful since more people keep joining. The interest in the potential of finding ET is growing. If everyone is diligent, our efforts will be rewarded. Remember, patience is a virtue. Eventually we will see the truth. They are out their, we just have to find them...it's all a big game of Hide-and-Seek.
