Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. yes, extraterrestrial life exists, God didn't create the entire universe just for us, silly. I think we will discover significant signs in the next 5 years with the current technology increases.
2. yes, just don't send any britney spears songs, they'll probably attack us for it.
3. I run seti at home to keep my machines from locking up. Constantly processing allows for my computers to not go into "super-hybernate mode" that no one except the reset key can fix. I use seti and SetiSpy also as a benchmark test between computers.
I also think that SETI has helped the technology industry work out some of the kinks of grid computing, which is spreading out processes through a network to allow for massive computing power. This technology will be what helps mankind solve those unanswered questions and calculations, such as how far does pi actually go, and more importantly how to cure cancer, hiv, and other issues that plague humanity. God wants us to find these answers out, and that's why grid computing was invented. Not just a pretty screensaver.
