Profile: Real V. Arsenault

Personal background
Well, where should I begin my introduction?... Oh yeah, lets begin with my background!

I was born in Quebec city, in the beautiful province of Quebec (Canada) in 1961, just a normal lad with an ongoing passion at looking at the night sky.

At the age of 17 (1979), It seemed that my life was going nowhere, so I decided to join the Canadian Forces (out of spike, I guess) in the domain of support to military communications; this allowed me to qualify in satellite comms. In my career, I had the great opportunity to spend 2 years in the Arctic circle; one of these days, I would really like to spend 6-12 months in the Antarctic, for research purposes.

Hobbies: astronomy, reading of scientific material, surfing the internet for new brain-teasers and to keep up with national-international news.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Anyone that believes that intelligent (or otherwise) ETs do not exist, should also believe that the Earth is flat, because the train of thoughts is technically the same. So, do I believe that there are intelligent life forms outside of our planet? You bet your hefty behind I do! Now, have we been visited before? The possibility is definitively there, and can't be dismissed. This brings me to the next question: if we were visited before, would they look like a 'triangulated-head-with-black-beady-eyes' aliens? Not necessarily, because these type of creatures could be hybrids generated "by" aliens in order to survive long distance space travel at an unimaginable speed. I would not be surprise if the ETs look somewhat like us.

2. Now, the transmission of a beacon from Earth could be either beneficial or dangerous, depending on the intents (and/or state-of-mind) of the remote receiver. If their intentions are good, great; if they have the word 'dominations' written all over their foreheads, then we'll have to deal with it. One way or the other, we always have been, and will always be, chance-takers; let's go for it! The information sent to them should be scientific in nature; at the very least, they should be sent: two coordinates (our solar system, and the Earth), the population size, and the genetic code of a human.

3. Running SETI@home on my home computer, is my way to say: "Hey, this is the greatest project ever! Let's give them a hand!" It's only a question of time before SETI Project find life out there; until then, I'll be at my computer, waiting patiently for this moment to come... Let's not ask ourselves "if"... but "WHEN"!
